Workers Welfare Board Providing All Facilities To Registered Workers Says Industries Minister

Shimla, 06th February, 2024. Industries, Labour and Employment Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said here today that Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare has provided benefits worth crores to the registered workers during the current fiscal. He said that about 3.17 lakh workers have been registered with the Board and 13 welfare schemes were being implemented by the State Government for their upliftment and empowerment.

The Minister said that an amount of Rs 51,000 each was being provided for the marriage of the registered beneficiary and the marriage of his two children. Financial assistance ranging from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 5 lakh for medical treatment to the beneficiary and his/her dependents, assistance ranging from Rs 8400 to Rs 1.20 lakh for the education of the beneficiary’s children from first class to Ph.D, Pension facility of Rs 1000 per month on completion of 60 years of age of the beneficiary and disability pension of Rs 500 was being provided in case of disability of the beneficiary due to accident or illness. Of late, benefits worth Rs. 5.32 crore were being given to the workers.

The Labor and Employment Minister said that on the death of registered worker, the Board provides an assistance of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh to the dependents. Under the Daughter Birth Gift Scheme, an assistance of Rs 51 thousand each is provided on the birth of two daughters of the beneficiary. He said that Rs 20 thousand per year would be given for the care of the specially abled children of the beneficiary, widow pension of Rs 1500 per month besides Rs 20 thousand per year was being given to the children of beneficiary’s if they stay in hostel, the beneficiary was being given financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh for constructing a house under the Chief Minister Awas Yojana.

He said that the Board was ensuring registration through online portal. e-Kamagar system from their home or Lokmitra Centre. The Labor and Employment Minister said that such eligible workers who have worked only as building construction work during the last 90 days period before getting registered were being benefited under the schemes of the Board. He said that in the year 2013, the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India had issued guidelines that those MNREGA workers who have worked under MNREGA for 50 days should be registered with the Board. Under this, beneficiaries were registered by the Board, but as per the revised guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment in the year 2017, these guidelines were withdrawn.

Harshwardhan Chauhan stated that the state government was committed to the welfare of the workers. In view of this, continuous positive efforts are being made by the state government. He said the allegations leveled by some people about not providing financial benefits to workers on board were baseless. Registration of new workers and their renewal is also being done by the Board. Harshwardhan Chauhan said that various schemes being run by the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board were being publicized so that maximum workers can avail their benefits.
