Kaza, 19 AUGUST, 2024. The remote region of Demul in Himachal Pradesh has received a significant gift from the JICA Forestry Project in the form of threshing machines. Located 30 kilometers from Kaza, the residents of Demul village had been using mules to thresh their barley crops. To alleviate this issue, the villagers requested threshing machines from the JICA Forestry Project, which has now been fulfilled.
Demul is a village with 70 households and the project has distributed two diesel-operated threshing machines. The machines were handed over to the villagers under the chairmanship of Chaman Lal Thakur, ACF of the Wildlife Division Spiti. The villagers expressed their gratitude to the Chief Project Director of JICA Forestry Project, Sameer Rastogi and Biodiversity Expert Dr. S.K. Kapta for solving their long-standing problem. It is noteworthy that Sameer Rastogi, along with his team, visited Demul village on 1st May, during which the residents requested the threshing machines.
The Chief Project Director assured them that the problem would be resolved as soon as possible. With the fulfillment of their request, the entire village is now filled with joy. Additionally, it is significant that when Dr. S.K. Kapta, the Biodiversity Expert of the JICA Forestry Project, visited Demul in October 2023, he saw the villagers threshing barley with the help of mules. On that day, the villagers made their first request for threshing machines to Dr. Kapta. Understanding the hardship faced by the residents of this remote area, the JICA Forestry Project has now gifted them two threshing machines.
