State Taxes & Excise Seizes Silver Jewellery Worth Rs. 4 Cr And 250 Bulk Liters Of Illicit Liquor

SHIMLA, 04th October, 2023. Commissioner State Taxes and Excise, Dr. Yunus informed here today that on the basis of tip off received, the enforcement team Una has succeeded in seizing jewellery worth Rs. 4,64,42,227 from the house of a silver jewellery merchant. The jewellery was without bills or documents and the department has collected a penalty of Rs. 15,32,594 under the GST Act, he added. The Commissioner said that in another case, the Dehra team of the department has also collected rupees one lakh under the GST Act in the shape of fine on goods without bill during late night checking.

Apart from this, under the Excise Act, various teams in the state have seized and destroyed about 250 bulk liters of liquor. The team of Revenue District BBN conducted raids in Barotiwala, Kalu Jhanda, Kulhariwala and Kunjhal areas and seized 115 bulk liters of liquor from the house and grocery shop. This liquor was for sale in Chandigarh. Apart from this, the excise team of district Sirmaur trapped about 90 liters of illegal liquor packed in bottles and cans near village Jamni Ghat, which was destroyed on the spot.

Similarly, Team Shimla raided suspected grocery shops and dhabas and seized 22 bulk liters of illicit liquor. The Commissioner informed that in the recent past, the department has seized and destroyed 77,000 bulk liters of illicit liquor and has also registered about 230 cases under the Excise Act. He said that 26 teams of the department were working day and night to carry out this work.

Dr. Yunus said that a 24×7 control room has also been established. He requested the people to register their complaints on toll-free number 1800-180-8060 and WhatsApp number 94183-31426 as soon as cases of illegal liquor and tax evasion come to their notice, so that this campaign can be further intensified and the illegal liquor trade and tax evasion can be curbed.
