Himachal Pradesh Traffic Police has become Tech Savvy

Shimla, 19 August, 2023. Himachal Pradesh Police has been procuring modern equipment for traffic regulation for some times. Total 49 Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) have been installed at various places on National Highways and State Highways in Himachal Pradesh. Due to which about 28223 challans have been issued for those who violate traffic rules. 425522 e-challans were also issued through POS machines and Android phones. Around 25% of the challans are being paid by the violators through online platforms.

Himachal Police has procured alco sensor, 4G body worn camera, laser speed gun and many modern equipments and these equipments are being used on daily basis by the traffic police personnel. Many positive results of which have emerged and there has been a decrease in traffic accidents and there has also been a decrease in the number of deaths in accidents by the end of the current year.

Himachal Pradesh Police is sensitive to the road vehicle accidents happening in the state. During the period January 1 to July 14 this year, there has been a reduction of 8% in road accidents, 14% in road accident deaths and 18% in related injuries as compared to the same period last year. Road safety involves collective efforts and teamwork by different agencies aiming toward one single goal i.e., save lives on the roads. In this regard, law enforcement agencies like police, transport department and civic bodies play a most visible and crucial role to act toward making our cities safe for pedestrians as well as vehicles.

Road crash deaths are globally recognized as a serious public hazard and it is of much serious concern in our country. It is indeed an alarming situation for all of us associated with road traffic management and road safety. In an effort to enhance road safety and curb accidents, Himachal Pradesh police and state transport department came on board to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to minimize road accidents and fatalities across Himachal Pradesh. The idea is to promote a culture of safe and secure driving on the Hilly roads in Himachal and in the country as a whole. Himachal Pradesh takes determined steps toward enhancing road safety, these measures hold the potential to make a meaningful difference in safeguarding lives on the roads.

Himachal Pradesh Police received Road Safety funds amounting to Rs. 7.34 Crore to curb rising accidents. Director of Transport, Himachal Pradesh, Shimla has released, “Road Safety funds” amounting Rs 7,34,51,931 to Himachal Pradesh Police on account of :- (1) Procurement of Traffic equipment. (2) Installation of Traffic lights at Bijri & Hamirpur. (3) For providing of Traffic regulation and rescue equipment for Kiratpur-Manali four lane. This fund will be utilized for strengthen road safety, implementation of road safety measures and activities. After procuring following modern equipment, Himachal Pradesh Police will do efforts to achieve the target as set by UN General Assembly in his resolution with the ambitious target of reducing at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.

The equipment to be procured and their quantity are as follows: Fully equipped Interceptor Vehicles ( Electric) with Hardware/ Software (3),Traffic patrolling Vehicle ( electric) (3), Motor Cycle ( 350cc) (3), ITMS (18), Defender blood seal blood (136), Laser speed Gun (3), Breath Alco Analyzer (56), Repair calibration of old Alco senser (50), Spare pipe for Alco sensor and paper rolls for printing, Vehicle actuated speed system (25), Computer for traffic (7), Printer (7), Offline UPS (15), Traffic Cone (1150), Reflective jacket (Vest) (250), Reflective Jacket Full-Sleeves (90), Reflective Jacket Half-Sleeves (90), Winter parka jacket (50), Collapsible Road Barricades (100), Interlocking barricades (50), Barricades (60) Reflective Baton (250), Sim for iRAD (431), LED Baton (30), Stretcher and Ropes (12).

We have planned to use proven methods and technology to carry out efficient and effective enforcement for road safety. After the procurement of above equipment, Road safety strategies will be effectively implemented in Himachal Pradesh. It is the responsibility of all to ensure that road crashes are reduced in spite of rising vehicular and pedestrian population by effective enforcement and road safety awareness.
