HAMIRPUR (Himachal Pradesh). Significant steps have been taken at Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) Hamirpur to elevate the standard of education to global benchmarks and to make the administrative system more transparent and robust. In a high-level meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhishek Jain, several crucial decisions ranging from the entrance examination system to student welfare and campus infrastructure were approved.

All these multi-dimensional efforts are being implemented under the directives of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani to bring qualitative improvements to the university.

Key Decisions and Administrative Reforms

1. Restructuring of the Entrance Examination System

To make the university’s entrance examination system more efficient, modern, and transparent, the System Committee will be reconstituted. Along with this, the structure of the Academic Council will be reviewed and modified as necessary to refine academic quality.

2. Employee Rotation to Maintain Confidentiality

Prioritizing the credibility of the university’s examinations and results, a new policy has been framed for the staff deployed in sensitive sections. To maintain institutional integrity, employees working in the Confidential Branch and other sensitive branches will now be mandatorily transferred upon completing a standard tenure of one or two years.

3. ‘Competitive Examination Cell’ for Students

For the convenience of students preparing for competitive exams, a dedicated Competitive Examination Cell will be set up on the university campus. This cell will provide proper guidance and counseling to students for various national and state-level competitive examinations.

4. Monthly De-addiction Awareness Sessions

A unique initiative is being launched to educate the youth about the ill-effects of substance abuse. Under this initiative, a mandatory 30-minute ‘De-addiction Awareness Session’ will be organized in the university and its affiliated institutions on the first Monday of every month.

Student Welfare and Campus Modernization

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhishek Jain stated that extensive discussions were held, and crucial approvals were granted to enhance daily facilities and campus life for the students:

  • Transportation Facility: To ensure smooth commuting for students, special bus services will be initiated through the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).

  • Campus Development: Measures will be taken to promote sports, modernize the library, procure new laboratory equipment, and construct rain shelters for students.

  • Environmental Conservation: A detailed action plan has been drafted to increase the ‘Green Cover’ of the university through large-scale plantation drives to keep the campus clean and beautiful.

Strict Directives on Pending Matters

During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor issued strict instructions to the administrative officials, directing them to immediately submit a detailed report regarding all pending matters related to the Government of India and delayed approvals or decisions from the State Government, so they can be resolved in a time-bound manner. Furthermore, instructions were given to take prompt, time-bound steps to constitute the General Grievance Redressal Committee and the Gender Sensitization and Counseling Cell to ensure swift resolution of student grievances.
