The National Health Mission (NHM), Himachal Pradesh, today organized a State-Level Review-cum-Reorientation Workshop on HPV Vaccination and Routine Immunization at Hotel Radisson Jass, Bharari, Shimla. The workshop aimed to review the ongoing progress of the HPV vaccination campaign, evaluate routine immunization KPIs, and strengthen grassroots health delivery across the state.
Shri Ashish Singhmar, IAS, Secretary (Health), Government of Himachal Pradesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by Dr. Gopal Beri, Director of Health Services, H.P., Shri Pradeep Kumar Thakur, IAS, Mission Director, NHM, and Dr. Rajesh Guleri, Deputy Mission Director, NHM, along with senior health officials, district and block-level medical officers, and technical partners.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest emphasized the critical importance of robust planning, community mobilization, and cold-chain management in ensuring that every eligible adolescent girl receives timely vaccine protection that protect them from Cervical Cancer. He highlighted that expanding the HPV campaign is vital for cancer prevention across the state. Additionally, he called for strengthening routine immunization to ensure comprehensive vaccine coverage for every child.

A major highlight of the workshop was the felicitation ceremony honoring best-performing health blocks in the HPV vaccination campaign. In Category I, health blocks achieving over 90% coverage—namely Dhagera (Sirmaur), Pooh (Kinnaur), Galore (Hamirpur), Shillai (Sirmaur), Bharmour (Chamba), and Sangrah (Sirmaur)—were awarded for their exceptional performance. In Category II, blocks that vaccinated over 500 eligible girls, including Nalagarh (Solan), Jari (Kullu), Nurpur (Kangra), Basdehra (Una), Rajpur (Sirmaur), Fatehpur (Kangra), Ratti (Mandi), and Rohanda (Mandi), were also felicitated for their commendable efforts.
Technical sessions during the day covered district and block-wise review of vaccination coverage, Measles-Rubella (MR) elimination progress, UWIN data updation, VPD and AEFI surveillance, and RBSK review, concluding with an open-house discussion to address ground-level operational challenges. Experts analyzed strategies to overcome local hesitancy and boost HPV vaccine uptake among adolescent girls. They also underscored the need to track dropouts to maintain high coverage across all routine immunization antigens.
