Shimla, 21st April, 2024. In the matter of gruesome assault on a college student at Palampur Bus Stand, a criminal case under sections 307, 326, 341, 323 IPC has been registered in Police Station Palampur. The victim has suffered serious and grievous injuries on her hands, arms, head and with the assistance of local residents, she was first taken to Civil Hospital Palampur and later shifted to RPGMC Tanda and PGI Chandigarh. Latest updates inform that the victim is now recovering well. The accused is employed in XXX Department since last 8 years. 
He has been in touch with the victim since last six years through social media and cell phone. He revealed during the interrogation that he got to know that the victim is talking to another person since last 3 years and since last 15-20 days, the victim had blocked him on social media and mobile phone. Therefore, he came to Palampur to talk to her but when she refused, he lost his mind and attacked her with the sickle.
Further interrogation will be taken up in the police remand. It is observed that rumors are being spread over social media in the matter. The cyber cell unit is keeping a close watch on the situation and strict legal action will be initiated against miscreants who spread rumors or misinformation in the matter. Kangra Police is committed to the safety and security of women and shall continue to do so in an earnest manner.
