The Atmanirbhar Blueprint: India’s Largest DCR Initiative

Developed by SJVN’s green energy arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), in the arid terrains of Bikaner, Rajasthan, the project stands out as a triumph of domestic engineering.

  • Investment & Landmass: Built with a massive capital outlay of approximately ₹5,492 crore, the infrastructure spans nearly 5,000 acres of land.

  • Make in India Exemplar: This is officially India’s largest single-location EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category. Showcasing global standards built entirely on indigenous capabilities, the infrastructure features over 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and roughly 175 crore homegrown solar cells.

Press Release Eng 4.07.2026-

Powering Multiple States with Clean Energy

The mega-facility is projected to generate an estimated 2,454.84 million units (MU) of electricity in its inaugural year alone, scaling up to a staggering 56,482.14 MU of clean energy over its 25-year operational lifespan.

The green power generated here will be seamlessly distributed across three major states and union territories to fortify the national grid:

  1. Rajasthan: 500 MW

  2. Jammu & Kashmir: 300 MW

  3. Uttarakhand: 200 MW

  4. Massive Climate Action Impact:

Over its operational life, the Bikaner Solar Project is estimated to offset a phenomenal 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions. This marks a substantial, measurable contribution to India’s global climate commitments and green transition targets.

Socio-Economic Revitalization of the Bikaner Region

Generating Local Livelihoods

Beyond transitioning the grid to clean energy, the project has served as an economic catalyst for rural Rajasthan. During its intensive construction and commissioning phases, it generated more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, and it continues to sustain local livelihoods during its operational phase.

Infrastructure Overhaul

The surrounding Bikaner region has witnessed rapid socio-economic growth due to the project’s development. Upgraded road networks, robust high-voltage transmission lines, and associated community amenities have significantly accelerated the area’s overall rural infrastructure development.

SJVN Reinforces its Renewable Leadership

Operating under the administrative aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the successful commissioning of this 1,000 MW project elevates SJVN’s total installed capacity to an impressive 4,196.5 MW (complemented by 123 kilometers of transmission network). The Bikaner Solar Project cements SJVN’s transition from a hydro-centric utility to a diversified renewable energy powerhouse, anchoring India’s vision of a self-reliant, secure, and green energy future.
