Shimla | April/21/ 2026

The State Election Commission has sounded the bugle for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections in Himachal Pradesh, signaling the beginning of an important democratic exercise across the state. With preparations gaining momentum, the Model Code of Conduct is expected to come into force later this week.

According to official sources, the Commission has finalized key administrative arrangements to ensure transparent and smooth conduct of elections. Authorities have confirmed that electoral preparations are now in the final stage.

Electoral Roll Update and Major Changes

One of the significant developments ahead of the elections is the preparation of a **Supplementary Voter List**, aimed at expanding voter participation. The initiative will allow newly eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

Officials stated that young voters who will attain the age of 18 years by **27 April 2026** will be added to the updated voter list, giving thousands of first-time voters an opportunity to participate in the electoral process.

Coverage Across Urban and Rural Bodies

The State Election Commission has reportedly prepared election-related data and lists for **51 Urban Local Bodies** along with several existing Panchayats. This step marks a crucial phase toward the formal election notification.

The Commission emphasized that all arrangements are being made in accordance with election guidelines to maintain fairness, transparency, and administrative efficiency.

Elections Back on Track

The Panchayat election process had earlier faced delays due to various administrative and procedural reasons. However, with renewed momentum and completion of preparatory work, the election process is now expected to move forward without further delay.

Focus on Youth Participation

Election authorities have highlighted youth participation as a key focus area, encouraging newly registered voters to actively engage in the democratic process. Awareness campaigns and administrative coordination are being strengthened to ensure maximum voter turnout.
