Himachal Pradesh Police observed Police Commemoration Day at Police Ground, Bharari, Shimla, paying solemn tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Ashok Tewari, IPS, led the ceremony, attended by senior police officers and personnel from various units. The observance included a ceremonial parade, reading of the names of police martyrs, laying of floral wreaths and a two-minute silence in their memory.
In their messages, Governor Kavinder Gupta and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid homage to the martyrs, acknowledging the courage and dedication of police personnel and the sacrifices made by their families. They also emphasised the importance of a professional, responsive and people-friendly police force committed to the safety and well-being of citizens.

Addressing the gathering, DGP Ashok Tewari paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes and expressed solidarity with their families. He reiterated that the welfare, dignity and well-being of police martyrs’ families would remain a priority for the police organisation.
“Behind every name we remember today is a life of courage, a family that has endured an irreparable loss, and a sacrifice that can never truly be repaid,” the DGP said, reaffirming the force’s commitment to honouring the legacy of its martyrs.
He further emphasised that the sacrifices of police personnel would continue to inspire the force to uphold the rule of law, maintain public safety and serve citizens with dedication and integrity.
Police Commemoration Day is observed across the country on October 21 every year in memory of ten CRPF personnel killed in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. The day honours all police personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
