Investment Friendliness Index 2026: Himachal Pradesh Ranks 3rd Among Hilly & North-Eastern States
NITI Aayog places state in 'Frontrunner' category; Himachal tops nationwide in Infrastructure and Resource Management

As a result of the state government’s continuous efforts and robust industrial policies, Himachal Pradesh has secured a significant milestone in the latest ‘Investment Friendliness Index (IFI) 2026’ released by NITI Aayog. The state achieved 3rd position in the Hilly & North-Eastern States category and was placed in the prestigious ‘Frontrunner’ group.
This achievement reflects the state government’s solid measures to enhance Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), boost administrative transparency, and strengthen investor confidence across sectors.
Reflecting Reform-Oriented Governance: CM Sukhu
Expressing satisfaction over this national recognition, Hon’ble Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated:-
“Our government has consistently focused on effectively implementing the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP). This ranking in NITI Aayog’s index reflects our reform-oriented approach, transparent governance, and our unwavering commitment to creating an efficient ecosystem for investors.”
The Chief Minister added that this enhanced performance will lay the foundation for sustainable industrial growth and generate new employment opportunities for the youth of the state.
Outstanding Performance Across Key Pillars
According to NITI Aayog’s 2026 index, Himachal Pradesh demonstrated top-tier performance across several critical indicators:

Infrastructure Pillar (Rank 1): Himachal Pradesh secured the 1st rank nationally for its superior logistics, digital connectivity, electrical infrastructure, and industrial facilitation.

Resources Pillar (Rank 1): Driven by high labor force participation, an excellent human resource index, and the highest female workforce participation in the country, the state secured the top spot in this category as well.

Regulatory Ease (Rank 4): Thanks to a streamlined business environment and a proactive investor facilitation mechanism, the state ranked 4th overall.

Institutional Environment & Business Climate: Low cybercrime rates, an effective grievance redressal system, and transparent policies earned the state outstanding ratings for its business climate.
Becoming the Preferred Destination for Investors
According to the Directorate of Industries, the state government’s emphasis on e-governance, a single-window clearance system, and simplified industrial policies has saved both time and resources for prospective investors. The report particularly praised the state’s skilled human resources, active participation of women in the workforce, and effective regulatory framework.
The Industries Department expressed confidence that this national recognition will further attract large-scale national and international investments in key sectors including pharmaceuticals, tourism, food processing, green energy, and information technology.
